Good Bones Season 7 is just around the corner — catch episode one on HGTV on July 12 at 9/8c — and, obviously, we can hardly contain our excitement. Over the past six seasons, viewers have come to love watching mother-daughter-duo Karen Laine and Mina Starsiak Hawk transform run-down houses into beautifully designed havens. The upcoming season will feature just that, as well as some fun new twists. To get all the details, we sat down with Mina herself.

What's Different About Season 7 of Good Bones?

Of course Season 7 will showcase Karen and Mina’s real estate, construction and design prowess — that’s the show’s premise, after all. But we'll also get an in-depth peek into just how trying the pandemic was for builders.

“It’s been incredibly challenging with just so much stuff from the pandemic, really,” Mina admits. “Early on, it wasn’t really affecting us, [but then] there was that domino effect along the whole production line of all the materials, and we just really, really have felt it.”

So much so, in fact, that Good Bones Season 7 is actually still in production — and will be even when the show premieres.

“We were supposed to reveal a house about two weeks ago and it’s sitting ready because we can’t get concrete,” Mina says. “There was a period where framing materials (like wood) were approaching the cost of commercial steel framing lumbers. So we were doing concrete pads instead of regular decks, we were doing cedar fences…”

It’s largely because of these shortages that Good Bones Season 7 will air its first eight episodes before going on a mid-season pause, while Mina and the team work tirelessly to wrap the six other houses, which will then premiere in fall 2022.

What Viewers Should Get Excited For in Good Bones Season 7

Shortages aside, Mina assures us that we'll still get major excitement in each episode — maybe even more than usual. “It’s the same fun, crazy shenanigans with the boys and the crazy issues with the homes that you typically get, but I think it will be interesting. You’re definitely going to be able to see [the strain of material shortages] in the episodes.”

And, if the very thought of having to brace yourself for a mid-season break seems unbearable, we have good news: During the Good Bones Season 7 hiatus, Mina’s spinoff, Good Bones: Risky Business, will make its grand debut on discovery+. Unlike Good Bones, which is beloved for its wholesome, family-friendly aesthetic, Risky Business is bound to be a grittier, more in-depth take on what it’s like to roll up your sleeves and attempt to resuscitate a dilapidated home. In other words, you won’t want to miss it.
