An HGTV Home Tour with a Special Connection to 'House Hunters'

Just who is Andromeda Dunker, and why does her voice sound so familiar? Find out the answer, then check out her funky and fascinating LA digs.

Wait, where have I heard that voice before? I must’ve heard it a thousand times. (If I can’t figure this out, I may go crazy.) Hold on … it’s almost there … it's coming to me.  Bingo!  It’s that lady who narrates House Hunters.

Voices Inside My Head

Chances are good that you’ve heard the voice again and again. But chances are even better that you didn’t know the name of the person to whom it belongs. For the record, it belongs to one Andromeda Dunker — aka "the voice of House Hunters."

And aside from a cool name, Andromeda’s got a killer California home and a decidedly distinctive sense of style. Let’s call it offbeat eclectic — and you can see it for yourself in the video tour we present below for your perusal and enjoyment. Want a few high points? Coming right up.

Did Someone Say ‘Pops of Color’?

In terms of decor, Andromeda leans toward things vintage and lots of bold colors — colors that look like they jumped right out of the 1950s and ‘60s. Let’s just say that if I Love Lucy had somehow been shot in color, you’d be seeing some of the same shades in Andromeda’s home. Her kitchen features a working 1943 vintage stove and bright turquoise lower cabinets that make quite a splash against the blond woodgrain uppers and light hardwood floors. “It’s my favorite color of turquoise,” says Andromeda. “It makes me feel like I’m in the pool.”

I Love It. What Is It?

The living room is cozy, inviting and furnished with a musical twist. An upright piano and mid-mod record player stand alongside guitars, bongo drums — and the “woktopus”, an original sculpture by one of Andromeda's friends, and something for which words don't do justice.

The Sounds of Silence

What to do after a long day of recording voiceovers for HGTV's House Hunters? For that, Andromeda retreats to her private sanctuary — her craft room — where she can indulge in some highly prized quiet time. “It’s where I can come when I don’t want to talk to anybody,” she says, “where I can close my mouth, and start doing something with my hands." This space featues a work desk, a pink sectional sofa, more offbeat accessories and lots of quilts. And, once again, bold colors are not in short supply.

I hate gray and beige and white and stainless steel. I want everything to be colors like it was back in the ‘50s.

Frank May Have Sat Here

The powder room off the living area is tiny and genuinely unique. “It's like a little jewel box,” says Andromeda. “It’s a surprise.” It features Japanese print wallpaper in a daring pattern. And speaking of surprises, the vanity and toilet, both purchased at an architectural salvage shop, may look ordinary but they have something of an auspicious history. Both came from Frank Sinatra’s last residence in Beverly Hills.

Now step outside to the patio. The backyard comes with terraced landscaping and other indigenous California features – a pool, a firepit, a lemon tree and custom Danish-design outdoor furniture – the latter pieces with their own story to tell.

The pool-side throw pillows were made using repurposed beach towels.
